Re: My Latest Closet Setup

Gosh -- getting old!

Check out Cody's first closet in the section for:

CLASSIC DISCUSSIONS / GROWING AREAS.

Not bad for someone located so far north.

Re: My Latest Closet Setup

Welcome back, Cody. We've missed you. So sorry that you lost so much of your collection during the move. May I suggest that our newer members find time to visit Cody's earlier posts. Use the tab named MEMBERS to find him. But first pull up a comfy chair. Cody was one of our very active contributors ...

Re: Must have Phal?

Suzanne, My selections are based on a familiar constraint -- not enough space. I prefer full size, award winning Phals that have earned broad recognition over decades. To pick just one -- I'd recommend Barbara Balden's Kaleidoscope Golden Treasure. It's my go-to Phal present for relatives, friends a...

While not a book, the research team at Michigan State University has published the results of their work. You should be able to download the articles as .PDF files. http://www.hrt.msu.edu/faculty/Runkle/O ... Part_1.pdf http://www.hrt.msu.edu/faculty/Runkle/O ... Part_2.pdf http://www.hrt.msu.edu/fa...

Re: My phalaenopsis window

Great job -- all in bloom, and all at the same time!

We are located in Central Michigan and suspect our weather and sunlight are similar to yours.

What direction does your window face? Do your Phals summer outside as well?

Re: My growing area, on the 3rd floor of my house

I really like the simple, clean design.

It's hard to see from your photos, but it looks like the plants sit on wood strips or slats rather than on a solid surface.

Do you find that this helps with air circulation between the plants?

Re: Salmon Colored Phalaenopsis Variations

I am convinced that Home Depot stages these plants knowing that:

-- we'll eventually be back to buy materials for new plant rooms
-- if not entire new wings for our homes
-- let alone specialized lighting and plumbing

Here's an aerial view of their facilities.

Perhaps the fire is limited to their office space.

Peter, Much as I love purchasing your orchids, if my wife ever sees this pix, ......................!!!!! The last time I found a snake in the yard -- just about this size -- she cowered behind locked patio doors that overlook a 20 foot deck, a 50 foot pool area, a 4 foot pool fence and 75 feet of g...

Re: my first orchid tank

Very nice DIY solution to your disappointing exchange with a supplier. I really like the neat and orderly appearance of your racks -- although it's good to know that you plan to build more units to accommodate 1) more plants and 2) the growth of these plants. It will be like having a modular greenho...

Kudos on your well organized and insightful request. I retired after serving 38 highly successful years as the senior executive for our corporation's computer and telephony resources. Yet - as a freshman in the mid-1960's - I had absolutely no career in mind and adopted psychology as my fallback maj...

Good morning,

I have no experience myself - but I found this tutorial on YOUTUBE -- it provides good comparisons between LED and traditional lighting.

Mike, So good that Peter has offered his suggestion -- he's the one who sold you the plant, so he knows best about your container, media and plant.. For general information, though, scroll down to the discussion group named CLASSIC DISCUSSIONS / CONTAINERS AND MEDIA. Lots of folks have shared lots o...

Ref your comment "it's not a novelty Phal, just a common coffee table Phal". I wonder how many members are like me -- wealthy, charming and handsome of course -- yet much more interested in the tried and true varieties for their appearance, lengthy bloom and easy care. Or perhaps I'm the odd duck fo...

Re: Winter is upon us!!!

Cody is far too modest.

He lives and grows his Phals in Saskatoon Canada.

I've not been there, but the attached map suggests that his winters are:

1) Way too cold
2) Way too windy
3) Way too snowy
4) Way to dark
5) Way too long

Good place to enjoy an indoor hobby!
