Re: Real or Fake Doricentrum?

Peter, Doricentrum does have narrower leaves. Here I am posting two pictures of one of my Doricentrums, along with two of my Ascps. Irene Dobkin. Re: Hydrogen peroxide with dry seeds

Hi, I used H2O2 quite a few times now, and it worked OK for me both in terms of sterility and viability with Oncidium, Dendrobium, Cattleya, and Ansellia seeds. The important thing for me is to thoroughly rinse the seeds twice in sterile demineralised water after sterilisation in 3% H2O2 for 10 minu...

Phalaenopsis seeds for a school project

I am currently starting a micropropagation project with students in the technical school where I am a teacher.
Would anybody in the forum be willing to send us some Phalaenopsis seeds (preferably species)?
We are based in Italy.

Thanks,

Silvio

Protoplast fusion?

Would it be feasible, and interesting, to perform protoplast fusion for intergeneric or difficult to obtain hybrids?

Re: Real or Fake Doricentrum?

Ray, "ThisSideofParadise", thanks for your comments, they reassure me a bit. What still puzzles me is the fact that I've just bought an Ascps. Irene Dobkin 'Elmhurst' that, though much smaller, looks exactly the same as these plants here. I am going to post a picture for comparison today or tomorrow...

Real or Fake Doricentrum?

Dear friends, I just bought this plant from Matt of Ten Shin Gardens as an orange-flowered Doricentrum pulcherrimin (Doritis pulcherrima x Ascocentrum garayi), but I am really doubtful about the real nature of the plant. The leaves look to fleshy, glossy and dark green to me; there're also some spec...

Re: Phal Yaphon Red Jewel X violacea indigo

The colour is very nice, but the flower shape is so-so. Maybe it can improve at the next flowering.

Sylvi,

this is very, very nice! Could you please post a picture of the whole plant?

Thanks,

Re: Is it an angel?

Thank you Sylvi, also to me the shape of the flowers is quite different from Liu's Berry.
Usually, though, Liu's Cute Angel should have side lobes of the lips a darker colour, i.e. more towards the red or violet. Mine is much lighter.

Best,

Is it an angel?

Dear friends, I bought this plant on Ebay, and I am pretty satisfied about it, as it is quite floriferous and I like flower shape and colours (they are actually more saturated than they appear in the picture). It was labelled "Liu's Berry", but I really think this is wrong. Could you please help me?...

Re: Branching/ double spikes in lower temps

Hi,

unfortunately I cannot comment on that, since I am more or less always above 65 F (=18.3 C). I can tell you that within my typical temperature range I can't see much branching in flower spikes.

Re: Can you tell a difference?

Ray, I agree that the most prominent difference here is in the top edge of the lip, being upswept in the second flower. Peter, also the callus seems to be more prominent in the second picture. Sean, I guess that the difference in the colour could be due to cultivation issues. Thank you all, best reg...

Re: Can you tell a difference?

Orchidsarefun, Peter, thanks for your message. @Peter: I agree that differences could come in when examining the plant and inflorescence, and also maybe when seeing the flower "in person", but could you tell me which differences can you tell from these two pictures? Callus, lip, column? I can't see ...
